Increasingly, the population of TB patients in the United States is culturally diverse. In this 2 1/2- to 3-hour session, participants will explore the important impact that culture can have upon the patient-provider relationship. The meaning of "culture" and "cultural competence" will be defined and discussed. Participants will learn specific ways that they can become more culturally competent. Guidelines for working with interpreters and for dealing with situations in which an interpreter is not available will be reviewed.
