Fundamentals of Medical & Case Management of Drug-Susceptible TB

[virtual training]  TB Case Management and Contact Investigation Core Training Module 3 

This is the third in a series of virtual TB Case Management and Contact Investigation Intensive (CMCI) trainings occurring during 2024. These trainings are part of the Curry Center’s CMCI core training, which is designed for tuberculosis case managers and public health nurses who deliver case management services to patients with active or latent TB within the public health setting.

This is an entry-level training for nurses/case managers who are within their first year or two of providing TB case management for patients with active tuberculosis. This training will cover the fundamentals of medical and case management of patients with drug-susceptible tuberculosis. Participants will also apply what they learn to case scenarios to reinforce the concepts.

BPaL/M Treatment Regimen: What the Nurse Needs to Know

This training is intended for public health nurses who provide case management for persons with active tuberculosis in Utah. The training provides an overview of the BPaL/M regimen, the criteria for use, commons side effects, monitoring for adverse events, treatment duration and drug resistance.

Bridges to Build: TB in the Pacific Islander Community within the Continental US

The Bridges to Build series originated on a call to action to focus on cultural and structural humility, as well as meeting patients where they are. The past three iterations have focused on TB in African American patients, TB in Binational patients, and TB in the Asian and Asian American communities. This training focuses on the Pacific Island (PI) community’s experience within the continental United States, access to care, and the quality of care they receive. We will share specific strategies for clinicians and programs to consider so that TB care for PI patients can be improved, leading to better health outcomes.

Focus on LTBI

October 7, 2024

Oakland, California [in-person training]

This training is intended as an introductory training covering the basics of latent TB infection (LTBI) diagnosis and treatment for physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical care providers who manage patients at risk for TB. Interpretation of IGRAs (vs. tuberculosis skin test) and treatment regimen choices are discussed and there is an opportunity to apply this information in case discussions.

Tuberculosis Clinical Intensive

October 8-10, 2024

Oakland, California [in-person training]

This training is intended for as an advanced training for physicians and clinical care providers who diagnose and/or treat patients with active tuberculosis. The training provides an overview of laboratory diagnostics, medical management, care of the pediatric patients, radiology, and management of drug-resistance and other advanced topics for the care of patients with tuberculosis.

Achieving Treatment Completion for Drug-Susceptible TB

This is the fourth in a series of virtual TB Case Management and Contact Investigation Intensive (CMCI) trainings occurring during 2024. These trainings are part of the Curry Center’s CMCI core training, which is designed for tuberculosis case managers and public health nurses who deliver case management services to patients with active or latent TB within the public health setting.

This is an entry-level training for nurses/case managers who are within their first year or two of providing TB case management for patients with active tuberculosis. This training will cover the fundamentals of how to determine whether adequate treatment completion has been achieved for drug-susceptible pulmonary TB, and strategies for addressing potential barriers to treatment adherence. Participants will also apply what they learn in large group activities to reinforce the concepts.
